Two tall, slender presences stand adjacent to one another, each other's presence justified by it's partner's and implying a sense of masculinity and femininity and wholeness. Standing taller than most of us, they loom over and dominate the viewer yet their industrial material and appearance fits in place in the traditional home of iron casting, the black country.
All signs of the various processes the sculptures have undergone remain, from the seam lines and flash marks of the casting process, to the hot wire cut marks of the polystyrene pattern they once started out as. Together they allow the construction of the process to by seen, along with the oxidising and surrounding woodland growth to carry their life on into the future.
Their space is surrounded by woodland to the north of the University of Sussex's Falmer campus and they are used to open up a series of woodland walks and trails to encourage people to interact with the area of outstanding natural beauty. |
