cast iron sculpture

Tom Fell was born in 1982 in Northampton and is now based in Brighton. He studied Fine Art at Nottingham Trent University and was interested in work surrounding the concept of viewer interaction and the effects on both the audience and the piece itself. Once finished, he started to focus his attentions on his main interest, materials, and in particular, metal. This gave him the opportunity to use a wide variety of skills and techniques in all areas of the casting process, from design to installation.

He got his first commission in 2004 to open up a disused section of private garden and discovered his love for cast iron sculpture and has been working on both private and public sculpture ever since. He is currently building up a collection of work at The University of Sussex, where his piece 'partners' was installed in June 2007 to form a focus point for a new series of woodland sculpture trails. At the same time, Tom is continuing to work on new designs and concepts and is currently exploring the use of a mass production style template to create a series of bespoke and unusual works entitled 'pieces', the first of which, '8 pieces' is currently on loan to the University of Sussex Library.

Tom often works to site specific commissions but also has experience of working with clients to offer hand-tailored, personal designs to complement a range of environments.

If you are interested in any of the work or the ideas, please don't hesitate to get in contact as all questions and enquiries are welcomed.
