This newest design is based upon the use of geometry and in particular the pentagon. By joining 12 pentagons together in this way the shape takes the form of a semi-collapsed/constructed dodecahedron. Part of the aim being that the viewer is encouraged to enter the shape and interact with the sculpture in its environment. The new design is made up of 12 individually cast iron shapes. The cross section is designed to allow the shapes to be fabricated together and takes the form of a tray with a flange running all the way around the edges. These will be fastened using metal bolts or rivets and are purposefully on display on the outside of the piece to allow the viewer to see all the techniques and processes this sculpture has gone through. This new sculpture will allow the public to interact with the shape and be included in the installation, as well as providing a focal point or point of interest and displaying the technical and engineering qualities that the sculpture has gone through. The design work is finished and is ready for fabrication. Because of the size and shape of the design, it will need to be assembled on site. Once this sculpture is finished it will then be up for sale to both public and private buyers. |
